The fossil fuel based energy sector, where Coal is the primary ingredient, is slowly being replaced by environment friendly ‘Green Energy’. In this transitory stage it is becoming more important for Coal Industry to reorient itself to remain relevant in the energy sector in a sustainable manner.
On the occasion of World Energy Conservation Day, to strengthen R&D capabilities, Northern Coalfields Limited inaugurated the 1st International Conference on Opencast Mining Technology and Sustainability (ICOMS) on 14th December, 2018 at Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh, India in association with Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi and AKS University, Satna.It provides forum for the peers and blossoms of the academicians, scientific community & industry professionals to interact and exchange their knowledge in the field of Opencast Mines.
The theme of the conference lies in Production, Productivity and Safety in Coal Mines and Environmentally Sustainable Methods.Coal is indispensable for India’s development and India is pursuing a low carbon growth strategy through adoption of clean coal technologies, efficiency improvement of existing coal mines, higher focus on renewable energy, energy conservation, etc. to achieve a sustainable future for the world.
The distinguished participants for ICOMS-2018 were former CMDs, functional directors of Coal India and its subsidiaries along with present CMD (NCL) and functional directors (NCL). Participants from companies like L&T, Komatshu, EWAC, Taiyuan Heavy Industry (TZ), HEC, BEML, etc. were also present. Delegates from CSIR, CIMFR, Scientists, and academicians from IITsand renowned laboratories were also present.The sessions were organized to focus on the research in the areas of coal mining technologies, solar energy, wind energy, thermal energy, etc., the challenges concerning them.
