Safety Standard in Mines


  • Statutory Rules and Regulations are implemented religiously and strenuous efforts have been made for achieving highest standards of safety.
  • Simulator for 100 Te. Dumper and 85 Te. Dumper was installed on 28.11.2012 in CETI. 346 Nos. Operators are trained in the year 2013 and 190 Nos. of Operators are trained up to June 2014.
  • Company level Tripartite Safety committee meeting consisting of DGMS Officials, Trade Unions & Management held on 17.05.2014 and Project level Tripartite Safety Committee Meeting held at Amlohri, Nigahi, Dudhichua, Bina, Kakri, Jayant, Block-B & Khadia Projects on 11.09.13, 12.09.13, 13.09.13, 14.09.13, 20.11.13, 21.11.13, 22.11.13 & 23.11.13 respectively.
  • Task force has been constituted consisting Trade union senior officials and GM(S&R) separately for mine inspection every month surprisingly.
  • Multi-level monitoring of the implementation of the Safety Plans though Internal Safety Organization at company level and also at Area level.

  • Continuous education, training and retraining of the employees with the Modern Training Aid/Electronic Media/spot training and lectures at MTK office.
  • Code of practice for Electrical shut down procedure and for working at Electric Pole/Over Head Line has been prepared & circulated.
  • Work-shop on the Risk Management was conducted in all Projects.
  • . Special drive to implement seat belt wearing by dumper operators has been conducted in all the Projects.
  • Back shift inspection by senior officers in the Projects have been implemented.
  • Safety Management Plan of all the ten Projects have been prepared and are being implemented.
  • Safe Operating Procedures have been enforced in all the Projects to reduce dumpers accident.
  • Monitoring of Dragline Dumps :-
    1. Measurement of corridors of dragline OB dump(Dragline sitting level and coal roof of Turra seam level) by Area & HQ Team.
    1. Scheme for Development of guidelines for safe dragline dump profile under varying Geo-Engineering condition in opencast coal mines of NCL for implementation has been conducted by BIT Mesra, Ranchi under R&D Programme of CIL.
    1. Six no. of Targetless total station has been procured for all the 6 Dragline Projects of NCL and are in use.
    1. One no. of 3D Laser Scanner has been procured for Jayant Project and is in use.
  • . Inter area First-Aid Competition was held at Krishnashila Project on 19.01.2014.
  • National Seminar on Dragline: Prospects & Challenges has been conducted at NCL Singrauli from 6th to 8th December 2013.
  • Annual Mines Safety Week 2013 was celebrated from 27th January 2014 to 02nd February 2014. During Safety Week, special safety drive is conducted on different subjects.The Prize distribution  ceremony and the final day function was organized on  18th January 2015 at Nigahi Project.
  • National Safety Awards : 

    Jhingurda Project of NCL has been awarded the 1st prize (Winner) for the Longest   Accident   Free Period  (LAAP) in the open cast mines type for the year 2011 and the 1st   prize (Winner) for the “LOWEST INJURY  FREQUENCY RATE” (LIFR) in the open cast   Mines type for the year 2012 in the Presentation Ceremony of  National  Safety   Awards(mines) 2011-12 held at New Delhi on 20th March 2015.
